1. How does Pony's dreaming, or lying to himself, finally work in this chapter? When Johnny dies Ponyboy keeps telling himself that he isn't dead. He says he out with a friend or at home. Pony then believes that he is see Johnny but he i just dreaming. 2. Why was johnny's dying so difficult for Dally to handle?
It was so hard for Dally because Johnny was the only thing Dally really loved. Dallys parents didn't care for that much and Dally didn't have anyone to love but Johnny. After Johnny dies Dally feels like he has nothing left so he loses it.
3. Why do you think Dally would have wanted to die?
I think Dally wanted to die because like Question 2 Johnny was the only thing Dally loved. Sure he like the gang but he thought of Johnny like family. After knowing Johnny is dead Dally feels like he has nothing left. This results in him wanting to kill himself.
Chapter 11:
Vocabulary:
Acquitted: To relieve from a charge of fault or crime.
1. Explain why pony might rather anyone's hate than their pity (p.162)? Pony would rather someones hate besides their pity because of all the things he is going through at the time. Ex: Johnny's death.
2. What do you think is going on with Ponyboy when he says, "Johnny didn't have anyhing to do with Bob's getting killed" (p.166)?
I think that what was going on with Ponyboy when he said “Johnny didn’t have anything to do with Bob’s getting killed” he meant that Johnny didn’t really mean to kill Bob purposely, it was self defense. Bob was going to kill Ponyboy by drowning him and than probably Johnny some other way so he stabbed Bob for self defense.
Chapter 12: 1. What 'circumstances' do Ponyboy's teacher refer to? What circumstances does Ponyboy think his teacher is referring to?
Ponyboy's teacher is referring to him passing the class, but Ponyboy thinks its about Johnny and all of the stuff going on.
2. Why doesn't Ponyboy feel scared when the socs approach him and he threatens them with a broken bottle (p.170-171)? How is this a dramatic change from the ponyboy we have seen up until this point?
After everything that has happened from Johnny and Dally's deaths, thinking of failing a class in school or being spilt for Soda and Darry Pony is no longer scared.
3. What does Darry mean when he says, "you don't just stop living because you lose someone" (p.173)?
I think he means just because one person is gone you have to leave too. Just because you lose someone you don't have to kill yourself about it they have to just get over it.
4. How do we know Sandy didn't love Soda as much as he loved her? We know that Soda loved Sandy more than she loved him because Soda was a bit to young for her. Also she was pregnant only the baby wasn't Soda's.
5. Explain how Darry and Ponyboy play tug of war with Soda.
Darry and Ponyboy argue all the time and while they are arguing they both try and make Soda take their side to prove that they are right.
6. What do we learn was so special about Johnny (p.178)?
On page 178 we learned that Johnny was a quiet boy but loved to be a hero. A note left for Pony to give to Dally from Johnny said that saving the kids were worth it. This shows that Johnny is a quiet boy but has a big heart and is a big hero.
7. What does Ponyboy end up doing for his English assignment?
Ponyboy does finish or end up doing his English assignment and it was pretty much the novel or story itself. He wrote about all the things he had gone through with Dally Johnny, the Socs and the Greasers.
